LUXBB: temporary deployement of six broadband seismic stations in Luxembourg

Published on Thursday March 04, 2010

In a collaborative project between the European Center for Geodynamics and Seismology and the Geophysical Institute of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), six broadband seismic stations from the Karlsruhe Broadband array (KABBA) were deployed in Luxembourg. The deployment started in December 2009 and currently, four of the originally six stations are still operating.

Project aims

  • Generation of noise maps and investigation of local noise characteristics over a longer timespan with varying meteorological conditions
  • Recording of teleseismic earthquakes and investigation of lithospheric structure beneath Luxembourg using the receiver function technique
  • Record potentially present local seismicity (small magnitude events)
